So we knew there had to be a good use for the Zune's crippled wireless functionality, and by golly, a Zunerama member has found just that. "Scoutflyer," presumably a student at a school that has banned iPods, claims that he was able to locate his buddy's stolen Zune by using his own unit to "search for friends" and hone in on the purloined DAP. Painfully aware that he had the only other Zune in a three-mile radius, the thief wisely decided to cop to his crime when cornered, and Scoutflyer's friend was able to gleefully rejoin the social. Now if only Microsoft could build a Zune that finds stuff besides other Zunes (treasure, oil, Hoffa), they'd have a real iPod-killer on their hands.

Last year we saw images of a keyboard that would have a Zune dock integrated into it. Now Gizmodo has published some more images of the keyboard and it looks really nice. The keyboard is supposedly made by Razer Pro, but there are as of now no details of the Zune keyboard on the website. [...]

Although the Zune didn't offer too much innovation in comparison to the bevy of other digital audio players out there, the wireless streaming (however effective) did have a leg up over the non-sharing competition. A California-based teenager, however, has supposedly changed all of that with her (well, her dad's) engineering efforts, as the SnoopTunes NoeStringAttached transmitter purportedly opens up the shared lines to iPod users. While you can certainly color us skeptical, the bullet-shaped device managed to grab some airtime on an MSNBC broadcast (shown after the jump), and reportedly transmits your music to other NoeStringAttached users "withing a 15 foot radius," touts five separate channels for non-chaotic field trip usage, and only runs you about $60 for an entire kit. While the slapped-together eBay sales page doesn't elaborate on what type of transmitting protocol is being utilized, we're here to inform you that this thing most certainl...

Now that South By Southwest Interactive is coming to a close, the SXSW music festival is getting underway -- a perfect time and place for Microsoft to get the word out about its floundering Zune. Except when a viral marketer charged with putting up those distinctive magenta Zune logo posters around town is instead became charged with, oh, what, vandalism of public property? The PR firm that Microsoft hired for the Zune account, Edelman, had no comment on this matter at the time of press, but we hear the viral marketer in question will get either three days in jail, or three appearances in front of a judge (whichever comes first).

Ben,
You have to come back from Spring break soon. I hate doing my own laundry, dishes, and Gizmodo Daily Round ups. Also, my feet have gone 3 whole days without being massaged. I can't BLOG like this.
And the news! You missed some crazy shit, man.
Like a 33-Story swingset, with a really gross Eurotrash techo soundtrack.
And some Zune-Goon got sent to the Slammer for putting up posters at SXSW without a permit. I hope he can trade Zunes for some protection Man-to-Man sharing. If not, I hope he's got some romantic tunes to squirt.
Then there's the Star Wars Tie Fighter Speaker set. That'll match your underroos now, won't it?
Oh yea, I finally got the OQO2 and the Flipstart in the same room. Catfight!
Take care,
B

First the NYC stunt and now this? A man postering the hell out of Austin with gaudy Zune posters has been arrested. Besides the fact that the guy is putting GIANT posters up on seemingly small lightposts, it doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but there are probably laws in Texas against those kind of things. Wait, isn't Texas famous for capital punishment. Maybe they will execute the Zune as punishment—Whammy! (Just kidding, me love you long time, Zune) I wonder which Microsoft jockey will draw the short straw and have to apologize for this one? Jump to see a shot of the tatted up, postering goon in cuffs.

Remember the Zune Pro|Type keyboard renders we saw last year? There wasn't much information then, other than 32KB of memory on board, but we just got some new shots in right now.
As you can see (with more after the jump), it's a keyboard. With a Zune dock. What did you expect?
But as long as the keyboard is pretty decent, consolidating two gadgets—a dock and a keyboard—into one is always good in our book.

Following up on Zune hacks such as how to use the Zune as a portable hard drive, how to share songs multiple times, and how to bypass the Wi-Fi sharing DRM, there's now a hack to sync your Zune with any PC.
Technically, you could sync your Zune with any PC before, but gave you a pesky "guest" mode where you couldn't do as much as you could if it were the "main" Zune for that library. By installing this hack, you trick the software into thinking that every Zune is the Zune it's married to (someone needs to get on this hack for Catherine Zeta Jones), and thus get full syncing. – Jason Chen

Sharp-eyed readers will no doubt remember this image from a certain FCC filing from Microsoft, which some had speculated to be evidence of a forthcoming Zune phone. That possibility seemed to be unlikely at best at the time, and it looks like the filing was indeed for something else entirely, with The Washington Post now clearing up the confusion. Turns out, the filing in question is for a device that allows for the Internet to be delivered over TV airwaves, and is part of a larger push by a coalition of tech companies lobbying the FCC to allow the technology to be implemented. In addition to Microsoft, the group includes Google, Dell, HP, Intel, and Philips, who say the devices could be rolled out as soon as early 2009 if they're given the go ahead. Of course, there hasn't been much revealed in the way of speeds or other technical details, or how much it may eventually cost, but the FCC does at least seem to be open to the idea, with one commissioner saying t...

For those gadget fiends out there who go through the rigorous decision-making process of selecting which portable media player to use is the i.Sound MovieTime Universal. This very odd-looking dock is compatible with all portable media players via an auxiliary input, but seems pretty specific for the iPod, Zune or PSP. It can operate by either AC power, or a handful of AAs. I'm still flabbergasted by the form factor—it's so weird, but it is also so functional. $77. –Travis Hudson
