Here are the first shots of the Zune 2 and Zune Flash. The images reveal an 80GB version and a 4GB and 8GB flash model.
Not sure what's going on with that interesting controller, but it looks like a real button, but is just wide enough that it may have touch-sensitive properties. These photos came from a source who cites marketing materials, likely from the retail channel, but were confirmed by a second source as well. Does that mean they're final? I don't know. If I were Microsoft, I might seed the internet with mockups as to confuse. Oh, how I love counterintelligence measures. So take them with a grain of salt, confirmed as something, but still unofficial. [Thanks Tipsters]

Mmm mm, WiFi and digital photography go together like brown on Zune (whatever that means). Sprinkle in a 3-inch LCD, optical lens shift vibration reduction, SDHC expansion, and Nikon's new EXPEED image processing and you've got Nikon's Coolpix S51c. Under the hood you'll find an 8.1 megapixel, 1/2.5-inch CCD pumping away in support of that 3x Zoom-NIKKOR glass. All well and good, but the WiFi seems limited to pushing photos up to Nikon's new "My Picturetown" service only. At least from there it "supports picture transfer to various imaging devices as well as Internet services." €299/$407 -- less if you opt for the WiFi-less S51.

It's a Woot Off! As of this writing, there's a Zune up there for $150. Who knows what other deals will appear throughout the day? I quiver with anticipation. [Woot]

One of the big pains in the ass with having an FM transmitter to get music from your iPod/Zune to your car radio is finding a clear radio station. A frequency may be fine where you live, but drive 20 miles in any direction and it could be totally packed. DLO's OpenFM tool lets you search by city or zip code and gives you the best (most open) frequencies in the area to tune your FM transmitter to. And they're hoping that you buy a DLO FM transmitter while you're there. It even has an iPhone-customzied version. [DLO]

The Toshiba Gigabeat T401 just saw the light of day, and it looks like Toshiba is hopping on the slim and trim bandwagon with this 9.9mm-thin music player with a 2.4-inch screen. Plus, the company says it has improved the player's sound with "H2C" tech, giving you better highs and less noise. We're liking this small form factor, about the same width and height as a credit card. It kinda reminds us of a smaller version of the Zune, with its Wi-Fi connectivity and Windows friendliness. Available in three colors as you can see, let's take a look at a close-up of the black one.

Watch 4GB's worth of your fave Windows media video (WMV) on that 320x240 display, and the company says the battery won't run down for five hours. Or you can listen to 16 hours of WMA-9 lossless or WMA audio slathered with plenty of DRM until the lithium ion battery runs out. Of course, you can always listen to MP3s on the thing, too. Expect to see it in Japan on September 7 for $214. [Toshiba]

Although the "upcoming" Zune music kiosk download feature seems obvious thanks to the player's Wi-Fi capabilities, being able to download music onto your iPod or iPhone on the go seems less obvious. However, 22Moo has just announced a date for their iPod- and iPhone-compatible internet kiosk station that lets you download movies, videos, games and music onto your player when you're on the go. The launch is planned for January '08 at CES and MacWorld. [iPhoneTower]

A lot of people are not sure what makes a Zune different than other MP3/Video/Media players. Zune has the same basic capabilities of Apple’s iPod. They are both have 30 Gig hard drives, play music, video and allow users to have a photo gallery. Here is a list of features that really separates the Microsoft [...]

This Microsoft patent describes a heads up user interface on windshields that shows useful information for the driver right where the eyes are. The patent takes information from cellphones, car stereos, your GPS, maps, weather, temperature, email, car instruments and probably the Zune, and places it your eyeline. Much more useful than taking a big ass table with you into the car. [Patent via Slashdot via Crave]
